Alcohol and Drug Problems are Treatable

Drug and Alcohol problems are very common.  If you believe you may have a problem with misuse of these substances, I can help you.  Some ways to know if you have a problem with substance abuse are:

·         People important to you complain about how you change when you use or drink.

·         You may have gotten into trouble in your relationship or at work because you use or drink.

·         You may be spending less time with your loved ones because you would rather be using or drinking.

·         You drink or use drugs for longer than you have planned, or spend a lot of time planning out when you will use, or most of your activities are associated with drinking or using.

Many people use drugs or alcohol for years before they begin to see problems arise.  For others, problems begin quickly when using drugs and/or alcohol.   I believe people misuse substances when they are trying to escape from emotional pain, such as having lived through child abuse, or dealing with a currently abusive situation, or having low-self-esteem or even using substances to “medicate” an underlying mood disorder (such as depression or bi-polar disorder), or when trying to reduce anxiety.  They are as many reasons why people misuse substances as there are substances.

If you feel you would like to stop using, or even explore what it might be like to reduce or stop using, I can help you develop motivation and a plan for making these changes.
